Tri-4-Fun-Blogger

One of my favorite things about life is that it is always changing, yet there are parts of it that always stay the same.  For me, family and friends are constants in my life.  They are my rock, my comfort, and my swift kick in the butt when I need it.  My career is something that I thought was a constant, but as I'm learning, that too changes.  The goals that I was determined to meet fresh out of college are not the same ambitions that I have today - but that's a whole other story.

I guess to fully understand what my blog is about, you have to understand a little bit about me.  I am 33 years old and very active.  I have an athletic build and enjoy working out as long as I'm having fun.  As a child, my passion was running track and cross country.  I won a few awards and took top honors in some events, but I knew that I would never be Olympic material.  I received an athletic scholarship my freshman year to a small private university and succeeded at making it to the National Track and Field Championships that year.  But, as most of you are well aware, private schools are very expensive and my small scholarship did not cover the rising cost of tuition. After my freshman year I no longer competed for a team.  In fact, I hardly ran at all.  I transferred to Texas Tech University in Lubbock Texas and focused on earning my degree. In December of 2000 I achieved that goal by achieving my Bachelors of Business Administration with a focus in Finance from Texas Tech.  After that I started  my career and running or staying physically fit just didn't "fit" into my new life style.  That was a change in my lifestyle.

For about 10 years life went on for me with very little athletic activity.  I played the occasional sand volleyball game or would ride mountain bikes with my sisters during a weekend excursion.  Once a year my sisters and I would take a girls camping trip which usually involved some sort of long hike or climb up a mountain.  But it wasn't until last year, the summer of 2010, that I began to miss physical activity.  I've always been a lean person so it wasn't that I had put on weight, but I think just the overall inactivity in my life was getting to me.  So I joined a gym and signed up for a Beginner Triathlon Training Class.  While very ambitious, it was probably one of the best things that I could have done for myself.  This is were change started to become a constant in my life.

Last summer I spent weeks getting back into shape.  I had a goal and a purpose and I loved every minute of it.  I felt as if that was exactly what was missing in my life.  Work was work, but my training gave me a new sense of purpose and adventure.  I completed two sprint triathlons last summer, joined a mountain bike team and competed around the State of Texas for both the fall and Spring TMBRA (Texas Mountain Bike Racing Association) series, as well as participated in many other local running races and events.

My goal for this blog is to serve as an outlet my own personal training. There is so much more than creating a workout regimen that goes into preparing for triathlon.  Hopefully this will be a venue where I can research and share my ideas and thoughts with other racers or your average person looking to add some physical activity back into their life.  I am by no means a physical trainer or a doctor.  Any information I share may not be the best plan of action or yield the best results for every reader.  I encourage anyone trying to jump start  physical activity in their to get checked out by a doctor before they start a new routine.  All of the topics in this blog and all future blogs will be information that I have collected from the internet and from talking to other athletes in my training group.  This blog is meant to be a sounding board for me to collect my thoughts on training and ways to improve my performance.  Please feel free to share your ideas on ways to improve performance.

& most Importantly, have fun training or working out.  It is my honest opinion that had I not been having fun over the last year I would not be as physically active as I am today.  Enjoy!!
